Contemplatively Stir Crazy

Keeping with the theme (it's honestly like we have a common mind, this is what I've been thinking about in my snowed-in stupor anyway. 20 inches of snow, in case you were wondering. Piles of it up to my waist. I need to get out of the house; I can feel my sanity slipping. Therefore, apologies are in order regarding the coherency of this post, as it is now 12:03 am.), morality is gray. It's about 6 billion different shades of gray, sometimes grayer than we'd like to accept, and there's not much we can do about other people's moral grayness except define our own personal grayness and surround ourselves with people who are of similar grayness, like the difference between Slate Gray and Wolf Gray in a box of crayons. And the only real way to escape our mental bubble of philosophy and try to clarify/modify/vindicate this individual grayness is to consider other people's perspectives, instead of dismissing them as wrong or just ignoring them. It's not like this will create a common grayness in the least, but is at least beneficial on a personal level. Wow, I just summarized almost everything Vita said in terms of crayons and redundancy that has left me in constant danger of accidentally typing "gayness". This metaphor has gotten overextended and redundant, is anyone still following me?

I'mma keep going, either way.

Everyone searches for a definitive stance on (INSERT ISSUE HERE), politics, religion, or even just life in general, which is ideal and convenient but realistically unattainable, like Vita said. It's just so easy to be absolute in our moral resolve--especially, much as I hate to invoke cliche, at this age. Not that I can speak for anyone else, but pondering these types of things has a tendency to boggle my mind. Not in a good or bad way, it just does. Possibly because I have too much time on my hands and fixate on ideas.

Your thoughts? (I feel like there's been a huge decrease in comments lately--no small fault of mine. Comment Revolution, anyone?)

I agree! We've all been slacking on the comments. LET'S REVOLT! ...Against ourselves...

ANYHOO I think I followed your analogy. I totally agree; WHICH IS WHY I SUPPORT FREE SOCIETIES (SUP POLITICS) because the government's idea of morality/one groups' idea of morality PROBS DOES NOT correspond to everyone's idea of morality! Which is why it's best to lay ground rules that most people agree on and then let everyone decide other shit for themselves! In my opinion! Yay for being socially liberal!

kaybye.

I'm not sure if I'm following you.

I try not to search for definitive stances, though. I still have them but they're kind of confining. When you realize that and try to loosen your grip on your deeply held beliefs, I think you become a more rounded, compassionate, receptive person. And receptive, open minded people are my kind of people.

Now for two proverb type quotes:
"Minds are like parachutes; they only function when open." - a button I have
"A closed mind is like a closed book: just a block of wood." - Chinese proverb.
